Awards Season Wrap-Up: Fashion Edition

By Natalie Leinbach

What better time to dig out your dazzling gold gowns, bags with artistic feathering, and intricately beaded heels? That’s right, it’s awards season, baby. Now that the Golden Globes, The Critics' Choice Awards, The Screen Actors Guild Awards, The GRAMMY Awards, and The Oscars have concluded, it’s time Monumental joined the fashion conversation. When it comes to the award’s season, dynamic visual pieces are everything. While many stars seek to advance their own personal style’s individuality, we were still able to roundup some red carpet trends this season.

One Bold Color

The red carpet featured many stars stepping out in one bold color. This is the somewhat subtle way to make a statement without being too over the top. At the Critics’ Choice awards, Awkwafina dressed head to toe in an Elie Saab yellow gown but her dark hair and classic red lip break up the intensity. Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher both decided to keep it monochrome for a fun contrast at the 77th Golden Globe Awards. Lupita Nyong'o also takes monochrome to the next level by matching a stunning rich brown goddess gown with her dark complexion.

Ruffles, Ruffles, Ruffles

Whether the ruffles are placed on the sleeves, the neckline, or the body, they are definitely coming back on trend, and in all-new shapes, sizes, and colors. Cynthia Erivo’s floral gown incorporates giant ruffles on the body and sleeves of the gown for a breathtaking silhouette. Florence Pugh’s Oscars dress had smaller ruffles but packed a punch regardless. Another showstopper comes from Samira Wiley at The Screen Actors Guild Awards with one wide ruffle that flows seamlessly from her shoulder to her waist.

Intricate Beading

The devil is in the details. One of the biggest show stoppers on the red carpet is a look head to toe with thousands of tiny jewels and beads reflecting the light of flashes. Needless to say, Brie Larson, Anne Hathway, and Lana Del Rey all did it right.

Avant-Garde

It wouldn’t be awards season without experimental fashion. Nowadays, it’s on-trend to be off-trend. The goal of awards season is to get people talking, and what better way to do that than to get exploratory? One of the most talked-about outfits of award’s season was Ariana Grande’s flowing GRAMMY gown. She truly takes the ruffles trend to the next level. Other iconic Avant-garde looks came from Lil Nas and Janelle Monáe.  While they both stick to the bold color trend, his hot pink cowboy get-up and her bedazzled hood were unarguably next level.

Some of our favorite looks of the awards season come from celebs who were found attending more than just one award shows. So who made jaws drop on every red carpet they walked?

Saoirse Ronan: Breathtaking in every look

Billy Porter: But you already new that

Laura Dern: Simple, Classic, Elegant

Last but not least, Kaitlyn Dever
