From The For You Page To Your Closet: Fashion and Style TikTok
By: Sydney Albert
TikTok. Most of us know it - and are most likely addicted to it. Formerly known as Musical.ly, TikTok has become one of the world’s most popular video-sharing apps and has grown far beyond its days of lip-syncing and dance videos. There is a wide range of content present on this app, but one that has been all over my For You Page is fashion and style content. The content ranges from creators simply posting their favorite outfits to telling you where they go shopping in order to stay on top of the latest trends. Not only can these sixty-second videos be informative, inspiring, and aesthetically pleasing, but they cover so many different areas of fashion and style that it is impossible to sum it all up. If you are interested in getting into the fashion and style side of TikTok, here are four creators to get you started.
Alexis Fried
Alexis Fried is one of the first people I ever followed upon entering the fashion side of TikTok. She is a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and a model for clothing brands like Mixology. Fried started putting out fashion content on the app at the beginning of 2020. She has gained more and more attention through posting a variety of videos about where to shop for college gameday clothing, must-haves from popular stores, and how to style certain clothing articles. She even lets her family rate her outfits sometimes. One of her most popular video series is titled “cool stores to shop at for teens,” in which she highlights some stores that are up to date on the latest fashion trends. While some stores she mentions can be a bit pricey, she always makes sure to include videos on more affordable alternatives. I would definitely recommend her page if you want to keep up with the latest fashion trends and find places to shop for them!

Marissa Rae
Marissa Rae is the perfect combination of street fashion and advocacy. A Junior at Emory University, Rae started posting content for fun but upon gaining traction realized she had a platform to do more than just everyday fashion videos. The first series to really allow for her page to take off was one highlighting Chinese street fashion, its essential pieces, and providing photos as inspiration. This has allowed her to start another series focusing more specifically on traditional clothing across Asia. By posting these videos, this creator is not only allowing for her followers to become inspired by a whole new realm of fashion, but is also explaining the culture behind it, and promoting appreciation not appropriation.

Wisdom Kaye
Wisdom Kaye has been called “the best-dressed guy on TikTok” by Vogue in July of this year and if that does not convey how impeccable his fashion sense is, I don’t know what does. Kaye is based in Houston, Texas, and often tailors his content based on what his followers say they want to see in the comments. Originally, he started by posting compilations of his favorite outfits, causing his account to instantly become an online sensation. People love his style and this popularity allows him to be super creative in his content. Recently he has been making outfits based on emoji combinations and from color combinations (combos that his followers claim can't possibly look good). Not only does he take on these challenges, but he serves as a face for men on this side of the app. His fashion sense is expressive and he shows his male following that it is good to express yourself through your clothes in whatever capacity your style manifests itself.

@itszuose
The creator @itszuose is best known for their androgynous style, TV show based outfits, and power couple outfit series. This creator’s birth name is Josh but they chose to go by their handle “Itszuose” when creating. Their first viral video was one in which they created outfits based on the vibe of each character from the TV show Euphoria. This video was a huge success, but with fame come haters. Itszuose is known for making a point to their haters that the haters are just jealous because itszuose has an extreme range in their style, and they are honest. They hone in on this level of range through their series in which they design “power couple outfits.” Itszuose highlights their androgynous style and makes some outfit pairings that are more “femme” while others are more “masculine,” allowing for most anyone to see an outfit that can inspire them.
