How to Spend Galentine's Day
By Kamisha Walker
Don’t have a bae to spend Valentine’s Day with? No problem! Friends can celebrate Valentine’s Day too. Here are 5 (other) ways to spend Valentine’s Day that won’t leave you feeling down:
Grab Your Girls and Have The Ultimate Movie Marathon.
You know the ones. There are classics like 10 Things I Hate About You, Titanic, or The Notebook -tissues necessary. If you’re looking for a more modern romance, put on To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You will be released February 12th on Netflix. And if you haven’t seen To All the Boys...you’re really missing out.
Host a Game Night
Put the board games away and host a paint and sip instead. This way, you will still have friends at the end of the night. If you're spending the night with your besties, make a fun cocktail and break out "Who's Most Likely To" or "For The Girls" for a good laugh.
Go On A Shopping Spree
Even if you’re on a budget, shopping is always fun. Hit up a local consignment or thrift store and buy yourself something unique, or head into Georgetown and make a day out of it. Better yet, pick out something for a friend and exchange it! Lastly, be sure to grab yourself some roses on the way home. No, it’s not cheesy. It’s called self-care.
Go To The Spa
Nothing beats a nice facial or massage from a certified technician. If you’re in need of pampering at a more affordable price, Groupon can link you to some discounted spa treatments within the local area. Also, students get 25% off when you sign up for the Groupon Select Student Program (but you didn’t hear that from me). Now, this could also be substituted with a nice spa day at home. Do I hear group mani-pedis?
Plan a Weekend Getaway
A two-day getaway could be just what you need to reset your energy. College Park is in close proximity to some real hot-spots. Hop in the car (or on a greyhound) and take a trip to NYC to enjoy some food or a good show. Check out affordable hotel deals with sites like Expedia or Hotel Tonight or split a cozy Airbnb with friends.
