Upgrading Your Quarantine Outfits

By Elizabeth Dawejko

In this series, Monumental's Creative Director Elizabeth Dawejko offers styling advice on everything from how to elevate basic trends to how to successfully pair unconventional pieces.

Being trapped in one's house indefinitely is not anyone's idea of the beginning to a great spring, but unfortunately, that is the hand the world has been dealt with. One could be tempted to let go of their routine and end up in pajamas, 13 hours deep into a YouTube hole, but getting up, getting dressed and getting ready for the day ahead of you (even if that day only involves binge-watching), can help with motivation and overall mood, especially in such an uncertain time. This spring, various fashion weeks have shown us a preview of fringe that will come out on top as the number one trend this fall, but just because our spring remains uncertain does not mean one should let style go completely. Looking good can help one feel good, and it does not have to break the bank either. Don't forgo your online shopping addiction during these times. If anything, it will give you something to look forward to and a new outfit to flaunt on your neighborhood walk. Jogger sets, tie-dye, and cropped sweatshirts are in right now, very luckily for us as we sit at home. Brands such as PrettyLittleThing and Missguided do huge sales all of the time, providing an opportunity to get these trends for less. They do it so often, I got some of the pieces during one sale and others a month later, in a 50% off sale. Brands such as these, which are affordably priced, to begin with, make it even easier to stay stylish and follow trends we see our favorite influencers wearing without having to buy a $200 jogger set. Styling athleisure with a chunky moto platform will execute the perfect look for this spring, ideal for comfortably chilling at home, WFH, or running out for the basic necessities.

Outfit #1

This outfit has convenient adjustable ties that sit perfectly high waisted, a thick and comfortable fit, and of course, the adjustable crop top; one can make the top as cropped as they so choose- adding the opportunity of individuality when it comes to styling the outfit.

Outfit #2

Size 2 for bottom and top; Styled with Doc Martens and cropped the hoodie myself

Tie dye jogger sets, currently spamming our Instagram feeds, are arguably one of the biggest trends of this spring. LF, Lovers + Friends, and brands of the like all included cropped tie dye pieces in their spring collections.. PLT followed suit with this edgy color combination. I ordered a small, as the set came in S, M, L. The pants sit perfectly above the hip, but I would say the sizing is a bit generous for a generalized ‘small’. I chose to crop the sweatshirt myself, because it absolutely swallowed me in its original condition, no matter how I styled it.

Outfit #3

Joggers in Size 2. Styled with Doc Marten boots & FILA sweatshirt

Super soft and comfortable, these joggers are perfect for practically anything - and the toggle tie details add something that was definitely required (to separate them from every other black jogger ever made). I styled them with my go-to black Docs and a cropped FILA sweatshirt I modified myself.
